License

Penbeam grants you a non-exclusive license to install and use the software on devices you own. The exact scope of features for the free and Pro versions is described in the app.

Pro subscription and lifetime license

Pro is available as a monthly plan, an annual plan, or a one-time lifetime purchase, plus an education price for students and teachers. The lifetime license includes free updates for life. When a subscription expires, the app reverts to the free version’s features.

Content ownership

All video content you record and edit with Penbeam belongs to you. We make no claim to any of it.

Acceptable use

You may use Penbeam to create any lawful content. While using the software you must not:

• record, edit or distribute content that breaks the law, including content that endangers national security, or that is obscene, violent, terrorism-related, gambling- or fraud-related, or that infringes another person's reputation or privacy;
• record another person's likeness or voice without their consent, or use their likeness commercially without permission;
• upload or generate material that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark;
• decompile or crack the software, bypass subscription verification, or call our service endpoints in bulk by automated means;
• use the software for deceptive purposes such as fabricating evidence or impersonating someone.

You are responsible for the content you create. If we receive a valid complaint or a notice from a competent authority, we may suspend the cloud features of the account concerned; recordings and scripts held on your own device are unaffected — we have no ability to delete them remotely.

Account deletion and termination

You can delete your account yourself at any time in the app under “Me → Delete account”. After two confirmations we permanently delete your account and the data associated with it on our servers (cloud-synced scripts, entitlement records). Deletion cannot be undone. If you have an active subscription, cancel it separately in the relevant app store's subscription settings — deleting your account does not automatically issue a refund.

You may also simply stop using the app without deleting your account: most features work without signing in, and scripts and recordings stay on your device by default.

If you seriously breach the “Acceptable use” section above, we may terminate cloud services to you after notice. If we discontinue the software, we will announce it on this site and in the app at least 30 days in advance, and offer paying users a reasonable arrangement for the remainder of their term.

Governing law and disputes

The formation, validity, interpretation of these terms and the resolution of disputes under them are governed by the laws of the mainland of the People's Republic of China (excluding its conflict-of-laws rules).

In the event of a dispute, the parties shall first attempt to resolve it amicably; failing that, either party may bring proceedings before the competent people's court at the place where our company is domiciled. Nothing in these terms excludes the rights you have as a consumer under applicable law.

Disclaimer

The software is provided "as is." To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any data loss or indirect damages arising from your use of the software. Please keep proper backups of important recordings.
